WHAT THE DICKENS!
Looking forward to all the fun of DICKENS DAY 2021
Dickens Day has been one of the highlights of Kilkeel’s Festive Season for over twenty years and this Saturday (27th November) once again sees the town ‘tip its hat’ to the celebrated author of ‘A Christmas Carol’ with a Victorian styled programme of activities and events.
Here at ‘Made In Mourne’ we too will be playing our part in the festivities with our Festive Afternoon Tea (booking essential) and “A Year In The Mournes” Art Exhibition.
Dicken’s Day is widely regarded as the start of Kilkeel’s Christmas Season and this year is particularly special given the difficulties we have all faced over the past 20 months. Launching the event Alan Knox, President, Kilkeel Chamber of Commerce said –
“As joint organisers with Kilkeel Development Association, Kilkeel Chamber are delighted to bring back Dickens Day. This event is a highlight of the year within Kilkeel, bringing a fantastic buzz about the town, with many shops providing special offers. We look forward to welcoming the local community and visitors alike to our light switch on and celebrate as we begin the countdown to Christmas.”
And there certainly is something planned for the whole family – from treasure hunts to Santa Claus, seasonal fare and street entertainment. A particular highlight will be the ‘Sea of Santas’ parade through Kilkeel with collections in aid of Heartbeat N.I. See the children’s faces light up as the Light Parade proceeds through the town by the sound of hooves in the Horse Drawn Carriage Parade and watch as a convoy of tinsel clad tractors spread the Christmassy feel on the annual Tractor Run!
Last, but by no means least, be sure to grab a good vantage point for the official ‘Big Light Switch On’ as the impressive 12m Christmas tree shines into action. We all look forward to welcoming you to Kilkeel this Saturday – a town that has certainly got ‘Great Expectations’ this Christmas.
