DR Group x MADE in Mourne – Powered by Local Business

Award-winning social enterprise MADE in Mourne has secured £10,000 in business sponsorship funding. The social enterprise is delighted to announce DR Group, UK’s Largest Owner-Operator of Guard Vessels, as headline sponsor for 2023. Headquartered in Kilkeel, Co. Down since 1999, DR Group’s significant contribution is a joint mission with MADE in Mourne to inspire, enable and grow entrepreneurship in Mourne.

Most recently, the social enterprise was named as ‘Rural Social Enterprise of the Year, 2022’. MADE in Mourne provides facilities, knowledge, and support for local entrepreneurs in the rural coastal Mourne region to launch and sustainably grow their businesses. This prestigious accolade was sponsored by the DAERA to recognise the social enterprise’s positive community wealth building contribution to society.

Founded by local entrepreneur Jenna Stevenson in 2017, MADE in Mourne is a community wealth building retail space and business hub, providing unparalleled support for local entrepreneurs in the rural.

Russ Shepcar of DR Group comments:

“Both DR Group and MADE in Mourne hold a shared vision to create a richer community; providing more opportunity in the area of Mourne. We welcomed the chance to become a headline sponsor in our effort to build a better future for the area. With a strong local workforce at DR Group, we recognise and appreciate the talented, hard-working people from the area, with 70% of our workforce being from here.

This notable gesture of goodwill is a promise to the area, holding strong belief that entrepreneurship is a key element to make local community thrive.  Speaking of the newly launched sponsorship, Jenna says, “We would like to share our gratitude and appreciation of support, especially from a local company that invest. DR Group shares our vision for opportunity and entrepreneurship in a rural, local community of Mourne as help small businesses counteract the lack of opportunities, poor internet connectivity, and physical isolation in an economically deprived rural area.”

“The generous support from DR Group will enable us to keep our doors open whilst continuing to create opportunities. We have built the MADE in Mourne brand and model to where it is today, but to be able to continue and take it to the next level, business sponsorship is required. This will in turn create the opportunities we need, in the provision of a platform for our local makers, creatives and entrepreneurs. The reality of the increased cost of living has affected our local high street and in turn, entrepreneurial journeys”, Jenna tells us.

Entering its sixth year in business, MADE in Mourne has generated over £1m for the local economy. Attributing its growth and success to their community and people, the social enterprise relies on community funding, business sponsorships and donations to continue its positive impact in the community.
